The bioelectrical impedance method seems to be ideal in theory, but the problem is that your hydration level can discard it. If you are dehydrated, you will appear to be more "fat" than your moisturizer. This method is the most commonly used household scale. While it's helpful to be able to easily see your reading, it's not accurate. You can follow one of the current trends and use one of the household scales, but keep in mind that you need to be at the same level of hydration. Measuring your level every morning can help your hydration levels be similar.

Checking your body fat several times a year with a DXA scanner and relying on the look and feel of the clothes may be a better approach.
