John Akii-Bua: Trying to smash the African hurdles world record and rename Stanley Road

Uganda's John Akii-Bua was promoted to the police inspector by Idi Amin Dada, the dictator, renamed the main Kampala road named after the Welsh American adventurer - soldier - explorer - journalist Henry Morton Stanley to be renamed by the dictator "Akii-Bua Road." This is the few months after Akii reduced the world record for the 400-meter hurdle to 47.82 seconds at the Munich Olympics in early September 1972. Among many other things, Henry Stanley changed its name to Uganda as the "Pearl of Africa." In fact, Henry Stanley often claims or is merely the first person to attach the word to Uganda.

Various products; but the fact is that the word aptly illustrates the superior value of Uganda because of its large population, the wisdom of the people, its strategic position...
