"Death" in Islam - a concept contrasted with scientific mental health research

In very simple terms, death is the end of life. Therefore, in this simple definition, another term, life, needs to be explained. For humans, life is the existence of an individual. If we regard the word existence as an easy-to-understand word, because not every word can be explained in a limited opportunity, we can now define death, that is, "death is the end of existence."

In medical science, death is a permanent and irreversible cessation of all important functions, namely brain function, respiratory function and circulation or heart function. Therefore, the medical definition further elaborates on two aspects of the usual definitions, namely "end" and "existence". Thus, for death, "end" represents something that is permanent and irreversible, and "presence" is primarily represented by function.

Combining the above two aspects, death can be very reasonably and scientifically defined as the absolute disappearance of function. In the science of psychology or psychiatry, moral and philosophical views are also included to make the problem comprehensive. Therefore, for psychiatric research, the theological or religious aspects of death should also be important. As a Muslim doctor, I will try to mention Islam's view of death.

Islam defines death as a mandatory transitional event between "life before death" and "life after death". Therefore, if we combine scientific aspects with descriptions, the definition of Muslim death will be the absolute disappearance of the function of time between two lives - one before death and the other after death. Therefore, with the concept of post-mortem life, it gives up the permanent and irreversible standard of "end" in the concept of death.

In our daily lives, death is associated with the greatest pressure of knowledge - the end of death. So far, it has received scientific support. But when religious issues arise, especially Islam, this knowledge changes religious beliefs. Therefore, when Muslims truly believe in Islam, it can be easily assumed that death is a less stressful event for Muslims. I believe that time has come and science takes into account the definition of religion to increase the comfort of our daily lives.
