In 1969, Jackie Ickx put on his leather driving gloves and ran across the track to his car, while the other drivers started the traditional "running and jumping". He did this to protest and encourage other drivers to use the seat belt. Jackie Ickx will continue to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Ford GT 40. He won the tournament six times. The traditional starting point for drivers to enter the car through the track was last used in 1969.
