What do you think when you think of the word "habit"? Do you realize that if you look up the word "habit" in the dictionary, then the word has 11 different definitions? Ok, I want to talk to you about a special "habit." The kind of "habit" that Charlotte Mason reiterated in her teachings.
What is the exact definition of "the habit of Charlotte Mason?" If you look at Dictionary.com, it would say... "A learned behavior pattern will happen often until it becomes almost involuntary ."
So how do we get these wonderful "habits" that Charlotte Mason talks about? Obviously, from reading what Mason said, it takes some effort, and in our children's lives, we begin to develop good habits, and the more beneficial we are to us. I don't believe that Miss Mason feels that at any age or stage of life, in order to achieve new or better habits, "it is too late." However, this is something that must be dealt with, not just once, but again and again, time and time again, until it is engraved in our thoughts and actions. In fact, Miss Mason believes that to truly develop the habits of life, you must focus on one habit at a time, and only focus on it for one to six to eight weeks. Then, continue to the next habit, then the next habit.
Now sit down and think about yourself... What habits have you got used to, and your child is satisfied with you? Don't focus on the negative, but just admirable.
