A large part of our awareness training focuses on attack identification. Your personal safety plan should include identifying body language, trusting your intuition, and the ability to react decisively when your life is online. By recognizing pre-attack signals that the body unconsciously enters, you will increase reaction time to avoid and/or escape the attack.
Attack recognition is mentally ready to respond to an attack. When you can identify pre-attack indicators, you can start pre-planned avoidance actions to escape and hope to avoid violent confrontation altogether.
Most predators want to "verify" whether their goals are appropriate. Therefore, they will approach you and make innocent little conversations so that they can be tailored for you. This is your intuition. When things start to feel "wrong", you need to be in full alert.
Predators will also show unconscious body language cues before a full attack. When you see any of them, raise your awareness and start looking for a safe exit, and be prepared to protect yourself when you need it.
scanning - When they keep checking the surrounding area to determine if they can continue to be safe, you will see signs of excitement and restlessness. You may also see signs of paranoia or defense.
Clench - They can swing back and forth, and the hand and chin are gripped and released. You may also see raised veins, instability or increased breathing.
Goal - They are checking if you are armed, or maybe even telegraphing where they are going to hit [chin, internal organs]. You may also notice unstable movements in your eyes and head.
Fighting stance - Their position is not dialogue. Think of the position of the boxer. One foot will come back and the hands will lift horizontally at the waist or chest. They may also start taking off their glasses or hats.
Responding to hesitation - Contrary to popular thinking, the human brain cannot successfully accomplish multiple tasks. If you start to see hesitation about the problem, it is because their brains are involved in trying to determine when and where they will strike. You may also see a contradiction between their actual words and their body language.
