There is a lot of confusion around the Schizoaffective barrier. This may be because schizophrenia itself is difficult to understand when you only know about bipolar disorder.

What is the difference between bipolar disorder and schizophrenia?

There is a big difference between biphasic and schizophrenia. Biphasic is a mood disorder, and a person has difficulty adjusting their emotions. This is an episode, which means it can come and go - some people have chronic symptoms like me - others can stay for years without an episode. For example, my ex-part Ivan [Ivan] has been between my manic episodes for 12 years. When a person has an episode, stress is usually a factor. Bipolar disorder can certainly lead to mental illness - but it is usually not a chronic disease. Most importantly, psychosis with bipolar is almost always accompanied by other mood swings, such as psychotic depression or psychotic mania.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness whose main symptom is mental illness. People with schizophrenia may be chronically psychiatric or have experienced episodes, but if one does not receive medication, the mental illness persists.

Both diseases are difficult to treat - but schizophrenia is more difficult to resolve because there is not enough information to understand how it affects the brain - which means medication is more limited. Biphasic treatment focuses on mood stabilizer drugs, with the focus of schizophrenia being antipsychotics.

What is Schizo-Affective Disorder?

The diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder means that a person has bipolar mood swings and discrete mental illnesses. In other words, mental illness can occur with mood swings, but it can also exist alone. This is not the case for bipolar emotions, which are almost always accompanied by mood swings. This is why different diagnoses are used for people with bipolar disorder and chronic psychosis with schizophrenia. Schizo affective disorder is naturally more difficult to treat than bipolar. But as new drugs enter the market and the disease gets more research and understanding, there is hope.
