Weaverville's "Souping Up" Softball

Summer softball has a long history in Weaverville, and players and spectators love to participate in their favorite games at the Lost Park Stadium and stands in Weaverville.

However, in recent years, Weaverville's softball has been affected because the same budget cuts and constraints have affected everything. In 2009, the county stopped providing any park and entertainment assistance to the local softball league.

In the past few years, the league has only continued through the determined efforts of some long-term, stubborn players, including Bobby John Davis, Ted Canfield and Canfield's son Todd Canfield. These three people have invested a lot of volunteer work time in this field, revised the rules, held a coaching meeting, brought garbage to the garbage dump, and other functions. They are also responsible for securing the union, paying for live lighting and painting sites.
