Justin Arrop: Uganda's greatest javelin thrower and track and field athlete

Javelin throwing is very technical and stressful on the arms and shoulders. In an area lacking internationally competitive track and field athletes, javelin thrower Justin Arop attended the event and represented Uganda for the All Africa Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics for many years. In the process, he broke the record of Africa. Arop's national record still exists and he is still Uganda's greatest individual athlete.

Arop has a great athletic talent in his teens. In 1976, at the East and Central African Championships in Zanzibar, 18-year-old Arop won the gold medal at 68.05 meters. Arop replaced Kenya's long-term champion John Mayaka, who won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1974, with an African record of 77.56 meters. At the upcoming East and Central African Championships, Arop will once again become a javelin champion [71.04 meters]...
