Apolo Ohno - Five-time Olympic medal winner

From failure to victory, Apolo Ohno became one of the first and greatest Olympic speed skaters in the United States.

Apolo Anton Ohno was born on May 22, 1982 in Seattle, Washington. His father Yuki Ohno is a Japanese-American, and his mother, Jerrie Lee, is a white American. When Ohno was a child, they divorced and he was raised by his father.

Ohno's father cares about the time when his son is unsupervised and lets him participate in competitive swimming and inline skating, both of which he is good at. After seeing the sport on TV, Ohno became interested in short track skating. When he was 14 years old, his father sent him to the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center to train full time. After six months of training, he won his first championship in the American Championship.

At the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, Ohno ranked last in the trial, but in the 2000-01 season became the first American to become the World Cup champion. Four years later, he...
