Home care can be a blessing when the elderly family health care starts to do right at home. We have all heard the horror stories of individuals who use older seniors to provide care for them. Many times this happens under the nose of the family.
There are a number of security measures you can take to protect yourself before you start home care. If you are reading this article and have not taken these steps, it is not too late. I will discuss five of them today.
There are many talents in the healthcare field. But I am a person who believes that you should not seduce your destiny. You can't prevent family catastrophic events on the price tag. At home care means bringing the strain into your home. Over time, many of these strangers will become like your own family. Small problems in any situation are not uncommon. There is always an adjustment period for older family members and health care workers.
More serious problems, fraud, theft and abuse are rare. However, it did happen. Therefore, my goal is to help you not be a victim. I have the opportunity to compile a list of things that family members share with me. Many people have some very unpleasant experiences and don't want others to do the same.
The simplest advice is to use common sense and not let anyone who comes from and leaves home easily get anything of value. It sounds simple, but you don't consider keeping alcohol or anesthesia locked.
More about home care and safety
No one is allowed to carry mail or provide mail to anyone in the house. Credit card statements and bank accounts make individuals an easy predator.
The important thing is that you spend time building a room where you can lock in valuable gadgets, jewelry, credit cards, checkbooks, and more. You may think these are extreme measures, but protect your health care provider when you take things away and make them inaccessible, just as you and your family are stolen. Not only does it eliminate the temptation to take things, it also protects home health care workers from what they are being accused of if they are missing. And I will see from my personal experience that things are really lost by other family members, or misplaced or even stolen.
Don't let your wallet or senior credit card be used for any external help. Remove money, social security can be used to steal identity or get credit for anything. If you have an older person who insists on keeping their wallets and credit cards, then get a very low limit, such as a few hundred dollars. Be sure to monitor activity on this card online or monthly, if not more often.
If your elderly are at home and using a computer, make sure that their personal information or the area where they pay their bills is password protected. It is important to make the computer unrestricted as a housekeeping rule. If you are unable to monitor activity when you are not there, keep it safe and protect certain area passwords on your computer just in case.
In home care, caregivers are free to enjoy their own lives and continue to live while trying to respect the wishes of their loved ones and stay at home. People who work and care for the elderly family care are very special people, kind and caring. When you find a good employee, treat them as gold because they are priceless. Just use common sense and protect yourself and feel at ease.
