Jordan Peterson "12 Rules of Life" - Book Review

According to the New York Times, Jordan Peterson is now the most influential intellectual in the Western world. His book from

"12 rules of life"
from

Is an international bestseller. However, if you happen to sympathize with the fundamentalist type of Christianity, you may not like it. When it comes to the question of God's existence, Peterson comes as an agnostic.

Again, I suspect that the author finds a lasting revelation in Genesis's book that he angers non-religious readers who believe that the Bible is eternal or true.

I suspect that Peterson's popularity stems from his attempts to address the concerns and thinking of other types of readers. I think of those who pursue a deep understanding of life. They come from Christian family culture and never ask the religious beliefs of the previous generation.

Rules of life
I would say it is difficult to make exceptions to any of the prescribed rules of life. For example, ' stand up, shoulders straight backwards #39; ' treat yourself like a person who is helping. ' Pursue meaningful things [not expedient] '. Unfortunately, it's not obvious that everything about each particular rule is actually relevant.

He does give examples of where we should take responsibility and fulfill our moral obligations. When discussing human difficulties, he did bring some keen thinking to find a better way forward in our lives. Improve your life by making sacrifices, giving, listening, and often as part of something more important than yourself. However, in my opinion, he did not really explain how his useful observations refer to the theology he supports.

There are many ideas that seem to linger in their own direction. This may be one of the reasons why the book does not flow, and it is also the reason why readers are unacceptable. Follow a rule ' each chapter, this book lacks structure.

Exist
Peterson seems to be more comfortable with the concept of being than the concept of God. It is said that this concept of existence is different from objective physical reality. However, the terminology he uses is quite loose. Generally speaking, he refers to the overall situation of human experience, such as emotions, dreams, revelations, and perceptions. Some of them are negative, chaotic, and even harsh. However, he sometimes says that "existence" is a basic good, also known as the unsimplified truth, and has a relationship with everyone now and in the future.

I suggest that the theologian Emanuel Swedenborg's view of the spiritual world adds clarity here. According to this, the universal reality of love and wisdom is the source of all good. It flows into life. This is the essence of the divine nature that Sweden Fortress calls God. This spiritual energy is directed into our world, inspiring health, beauty and compassion. However, it can be reversed by humans, but it can be said that their opposites also have diseases, ugliness and contempt.

Sacred writing
Peterson believes that the early chapters of Genesis were written as metaphors describing human psychology rather than actual events in history. In other words, they describe why our location is so tragic and morally tormented. He believes that the narrative order of these chapters is almost unbearable.

God's spiritual and psychological relevance in his way of thinking is correct. However, he pointed out that whether it exists or not, it is actually God. The message is that we are no longer related to God and nature, and there is no simple turning back. He believes that the primitive people represented by Adam and Eve are in perfect condition, and their kindness is what is given rather than earned.

He said that this story reveals Adam's shameful hiding place, and we are not willing to walk with God. [However, he is talking about our vulnerability and evil tendencies.]

This seems to be consistent with the notion that our human soul has changed from a sacred source of reality to a self-centered illusion.

Peterson also believes that the entire Bible is structured to make everything after the fall - the history of Israel, the prophecy, the coming of Christ - used as a remedy for corruption.

Similarly, I would say that the Bible provides prophecy of the soul, reawakening and returning to reality.

Evil
This book implies that human beings' ability to degenerate and demeaning makes the concept of "original sin" legal. He admits that this is very unpopular in the modern intellectual world. In my opinion, the notice of the original sin is wrong, although I will say that sin is true. But only when we see it as blocking the flow of divine life into us will we deliberately violate it. We do this when we violate our inner conscience that is truly meaningful.

The intentional use of this word is in line with the idea of human free will. We are free to choose good and bad influences in our hearts, and we are responsible for our actions. As Peterson pointed out, although many, even the majority of child abuse adults are abused as children, those who ignore most abused children do not abuse their children.

in conclusion
People like or hate this author. Those who prefer nature rather than cultivation, personal free will and self-responsibility, and a tough attitude towards stupid thinking are more likely to accept him. But I think that for people with less conservative prospects, there is also a lot of value here. In this short review, I can mention more than that.
